Both Sides of the Bars: Putting An End To Today's Public Safety Crisis

ProducerKhalil Cumberbatch
DescriptionAccording to the former mayor of Ithaca, New York, mass incarceration, crime rates, and transforming public safety are all inter-related. "In Ithaca, we proved public safety reform is possible, not by adding more police, but by investing in social services which genuinely improve people's lives", says Svante Myrick, who was elected to his post at the age of 24. This episode's guest is Mr. Myrick, who is now president and CEO of People For The American Way (PFAW), a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit progressive advocacy group founded by TV producer Norman Lear ("All In the Family"). PFAW's recent report, "All Safe: Transforming Public Safety", focuses on the three steps public officials need to take to end today's public safety crisis.
