According to the former mayor of Ithaca, New York, mass incarceration, crime rates, and transforming public safety are all inter-related. "In Ithaca, we proved public safety reform is possible, not by adding more police, but by investing in social services which genuinely improve people's lives", says Svante Myrick, who was elected to his post at the age of 24.
