A Message from California Department of Public Health

DescriptionWhen anyone in your household is sick it can impact everyone, both physically and emotionally. As we head into the fall and winter seasons, there is typically an increase in respiratory viruses across California , especially among children. Certain respiratory viruses, like the ones that cause flu, COVID-19, and RSV, are more likely than others to make people very sick. Here are a few reminders on how to reduce the impact of respiratory illness on ourselves and our loved ones this season. Staying up to date on vaccines provides the best protection against severe illness. Everyone 6 months and older should get their flu and COVID-19 vaccines. These vaccines have been updated to protect against new variants. New RSV immunizations are also now available for older adults, infants, and for some toddlers. You can schedule vaccine appointments at MyTurn.ca.gov, at a local pharmacy, or with your health care provider. Everyday preventative actions can also protect you and your family, like staying home when sick, frequent hand washing, covering your cough and sneeze, avoiding close contact with sick people, and wearing a mask in crowded public indoor spaces. If you have symptoms, test for COVID-19 and contact your health care provider to seek immediate treatment. The sooner treatment is started, the sooner you can get back to normal. With your help, we can reduce the spread of illness and have a healthier … and happier fall and winter season!
