ProducerKhalil Cumberbatch
DescriptionA reflection and examination of the final phrase of the Star Spangled Banner. Is the United States really the land of the free and home of the brave? The American criminal justice system holds approximately 2.3 million people in 1,719 state prisons, 109 federal prisons, 1,772 juvenile correctional facilities, 3,163 local jails, and 80 Indian Country jails as well as in military prisons, immigration detention facilities, civil commitment centers, state psychiatric hospitals, and prisons in the U.S. territories. There are another 840,000 people on parole and 3.6 million people on probation. The United States has the highest incarceration rate of any country in the world! Host Brittany Smith, director of education at The Fortune Society, discusses the issues with Cheryl-Lyn Bentley, associate attorney at Outten & Golden, LLP.
