Government Meetings

Staying up-to-date on local government meetings is crucial for viewers as it directly impacts their communities. It provides valuable insights into decisions affecting public services, budgets, and policies. Being informed empowers citizens to engage, voice opinions, and participate in the democratic process, fostering a stronger and more accountable local governance.

These meetings are open to the public which you can attend in person or participate online for most meetings listed below. For online participation options, click on the Schedule button for the respective meeting. You will then be redirected to a calendar page:

For City of Fresno meetings, find the Agenda link listed next to the respective meeting. Click on the Zoom link;
For City of Clovis meetings, find specific meeting date link first, then you will given a link to view the Agenda. A WebEx meeting link will be provided, if any.

Clovis City Council

Clovis voters, at large, elect a 5-member Council to serve as the City’s legislative and governing body. The members serve 4 year terms and they elect one member to serve as mayor and one to serve as mayor pro tem for two years. The City Council, as the legislative body, establishes policy that is administered and implemented through full time staff under the Council-Manager form of government. A general municipal election is held every two years, alternating, between two and three, positions each cycle.

Fresno City Council

There are seven City Council Members elected by district for four-year staggered terms (also on a non-partisan basis and for up to two terms) and rotate serving one-year terms as Council President. The City Council is the legislative body, their powers and duties are subject to the Brown Act and include the consideration of land use decisions, and other actions taken by ordinance, resolution, etc. at publicly noticed City Council Meetings.

Clovis Planning Commission

The Planning Commission reviews development proposals for compliance with the General Plan and makes recommendations to City Council in the following areas: 1) Long range plans and maps for the City and plans for public improvements. 2) Plans and development plans. 3) Zoning and rezoning of property. There are five members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. Regular meetings are held monthly at 6pm in the Council Chambers generally on the fourth Thursday. Fresno Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is an advisory committee, consisting of seven members appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The Planning Commission recommends actions on various planning issues, such as Plan Amendments, Rezones, and appeals for Development Permits or Conditional Use Permits. Meetings are open to the public.

Clovis Citizen’s Advisory Committee

The City Council has appointed 25 citizens to form a Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) to the review services that the City of Clovis Police Department provides with the existing staffing and funding along with the spending and staffing patterns within the Police Department over the past 15 years. The CAC will also evaluate how the City maintained the “Safest City in the Valley” position and the level of resources that would be needed for Clovis to remain as the “Safest City in the Valley”. After the CAC’s review and evaluation of the Police Department’s current status, the CAC will report recommendations to the City Council regarding the issues mentioned above. Fresno Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission

The Parks Recreation and Arts Commission consists of nine (9) members. The nine-member Commission has been appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council. The membership of the Commission reflects the cultural, demographic, and geographic diversity of the City, with at least one-third of the Commissioners residing in the highest-need neighborhoods. The Commission’s primary authority on behalf of the City is to conduct hearings and receive public input on programs, facilities, and services funded with Measure P, and to make recommendations to the City Council for the adoption of Measure P expenditures in connection with the annual budget process.

Fresno Disability Advisory Commission

The City of Fresno, Disability Advisory Commission (DAC) was created to improve the quality of life for the disabled community in our area. The Commission will increase the public’s awareness of the strengths and successes of people with disabilities by actively participating in community activities and events which incorporate diverse perspectives. The DAC will work to ensure that all citizens with disabilities have equal access to resources and services that provide opportunities for education and employability. Includes both Housing and Transportation Subcommittees.

Fresno Historic Preservation Commission

The City’s Historic Preservation Commission is comprised of seven individuals appointed by the Mayor, who have training and expertise in preservation, architecture, architectural history, engineering and related fields. The Commission meets the 4th Monday of the month at Fresno City Hall in Conference Room A at 6 pm. The Commission reviews all nominations to the Local Register of Historic Resources, approves or denies permits to historic properties and comments on projects and plans that may affect the City’s historic and cultural heritage. Commission hearings are open to the public and participation is highly encouraged.

Fresno Transformative Climate Communities Committee

The Fresno Transformative Climate Communities Collaborative (Collaborative) began with a participatory process to identify a series of projects to invest in that will result in significant environmental and economic benefits downtown, Chinatown, and southwest Fresno. Anyone who lived worked or owned property in these areas was encouraged to participate. The purpose of the Collaborative was to promote and nurture creative project ideas, develop local criteria to define the type of catalytic and connective impact projects should have, and provide the City of Fresno with direction on the proposal of integrated projects included in the application to the Strategic Growth Council (SGC) for funding.

Fresno West-Area Steering Area Commission

The West Area Neighborhoods Specific Plan both reaffirms and refines policies from the Fresno General Plan on a range of topics that include land use and development, transportation, public facilities, and public utilities. The Plan creates both a vision for the future development of the Plan Area as well as a policy foundation to be leveraged and evolved by all community stakeholders. It is intended to be used by policymakers to guide decisions about the future of the West Area, to make land use determinations, and to acquire federal and state grant funding for public projects. The Plan is also intended to be used by community organizations, developers, and residents as a base for future public and private partnerships as well as a tool for future community-led planning endeavors.

Tower District Specific Plan Implementation Committee

These meetings are a part of a series in which together the committee and the community will explore ways to preserve, promote and enhance the economic health, diversity, unique historic character, and vitality of the Tower District.

California Water Commission

The nine-member commission explores water management issues from multiple perspectives and makes recommendations to the California Department of Water Resources, the California Natural Resources Agency, the Governor and the State Legislature on ways to improve water planning and management in response to changing hydrology. San Joaquin River Conservancy Board

The San Joaquin River Conservancy is a regionally governed agency created to develop and manage the San Joaquin River Parkway, a planned 22-mile natural and recreational area in the floodplain extending from Friant Dam to Highway 99. The Conservancy’s mission includes acquiring approximately 5,900 acres from willing sellers; developing, operating, and managing those lands for public access and recreation; and protecting, enhancing, and restoring riparian and floodplain habitat.

Mobile-home Park Rent Review and Stabilization Commission

The City of Fresno Municipal Code established the Rent Review and Stabilization Commission, Resident Committees, and the rights and responsibilities with regard to rent increases for mobile-home parks. The Commission consists of five regular members and seven alternate members. The Commission’s key responsibility is to hear rent increase applications should an owner request proceedings following a vote to reject a non-automatic rent increase.

Fresno Department of Public Utilities

The City of Fresno’s Department of Public Utilities Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) will hold a community outreach meeting to discuss SWMD’s financial health and the process that will be used to reestablish the financial viability of the Division.
