They Can't Take That Away: The Legacy of the Fillmore

ProducerSF Commons
DescriptionTake a trip back in time to the jazz heyday of the Fillmore District in San Francisco in the 1940s and 50s. You will see rare archival photos and interviews with local characters who share their memories about this once vibrant scene, and the city's misguided redevelopment efforts that tragically wiped it away. We also talk to city officials and contemporary artists and musicians to explore what the city is doing to keep artists thriving today. This TV documentary has won 4 Gold Telly Awards and two WAVE awards, and was produced by Lubna Takruri and SF Commons at Bay Area Video Coalition. SF Commons is San Francisco's public access TV station.
