The Challenge

DescriptionThe Challenge was commissioned for the Fresno County Crisis Residential Treatment Center. This ten-and-a-half-foot sculpture was created by "Leave it to Beaver" actor Tony Dow who passed away on July 27th. Dow said The Challenge was inspired by the Greek legend of Sisyphus, condemned by the gods for eternity to repeatedly roll a boulder up a hill only to have it roll down again once he got it to the top, as a metaphor for the individual's persistent struggle against the essential absurdity of life. It now stands as a symbol of resilience as it was meant to inspire all of us to push forward through difficult times so we can get to the point of recovery and wellness.
