Steps to Success: College Readiness - CalKids

Fresno County Superintendent of Schools is Supporting Student Success! We’re excited to bring you another video in our Steps to Success series. In this week's Steps to Success, we're talking about CalKids! Dr. Jeffery Hunt introduces us to the CalKids program, an incredible initiative funded by the state of California to give students a financial head start on their college journey. Here’s how it works: CalKids provides free money for low-income, foster youth, unhoused students, and even newborns born after July 1, 2022. Students in grades 1-12 can receive up to $1,500 for college, with accounts starting at $500 and additional funds for foster and unhoused youth. Newborns receive up to $150 to start their savings, giving parents a chance to build on those funds. If you’re a parent of a first or second grader, now is the time to set up your CalKids account and start contributing to make college a reality! Watch now to learn more about how this program can help set your child up for a successful future.
