DescriptionJoin us for Lao traditional music! In this performance, Bounxeung Synanonh, a master of khaen, brings you the joyful sounds of the traditional music of the Lao people. Khaen is a free-reed mouth organ made from 16 lengths of bamboo. UNESCO has inscribed the Khaen music of the Lao people on its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Mr. Bounxeung has received a National Heritage Fellowship award from the National Endowment of the Arts in 2016. This presentation is part of a project made possible with support from California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (calhum.org).
