The Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH) is providing a media briefing on the rabies death involving a Fresno County resident that was suspected to have been bitten by a bat in Merced County. The FCDPH is working closely with the hospital and healthcare workers who cared for the individual. The Merced County Department of Public Health is notifying individuals who may have been exposed, as well as preparing medical providers in the community on response measures. The health departments are actively working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health.
