SeriesEmpowHERd Voices
Description"The women from Cantua Creek, a small farmworking town in western Fresno County. They continuously striggle - and overcome challenges - to keep their families afloat with limited resources. Be it lack of access to public transportation, abandoned pilot programs funded by the state or local government, immigration and language limitations or the constant challenges cast upon them by the extreme heat and conditions that trouble their community, every now and then - from what I've witnessed - they rally to help each other out with rides to doctor's appointments or errands in Fresno city to keep their community standing. Also, the women leading the Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño (CBDIO) based in Fresno. I've met several of them at community events and they work tirelessly to help the significantly present Oaxacan Indigenous community in the Fresno-Madera counties' region. It is a very specific -- and important -- community to this specific region of the Valley that is very often overlooked, more so because multiple languages are spoken among them and some don't speak Spanish or English, yet work in the fields to feed us all".
