At this July 19 press conference, Fresno City Councilmember Miguel Arias announces that, due to safety concerns, outdoor vendors and events will not be allowed at ArtHop on August 1, as the city considers changes to the permitting process. ArtHop takes place on the first Thursday of each month in Downtown Fresno and the Tower District. ArtHop began in 1996, and focused on drawing crowds to indoor art galleries. In recent years, the event has evolved into a street fair that attracts over 15,000 people monthly.
