Member of the Month: Doug Bloomer

CMAC is full of individuals working hard to learn new skills, create content, and sharing it with the community. Each month we will highlight a CMAC member, their story, and the the programming they create. For September, our member of the month is Doug Bloomer. He has been a member since CMAC first opened in 2012 and has been producing a re-occurring series titled, “Figures in Action“, where he travels around filming different comic-con conventions.

1. What is your favorite restaurant?

Ruby’s in Newport Beach, CA.

2. What is your favorite music genre and who is your favorite artist of that genre?

I’m not sure what genre it is, but I always had fun listening to the Beatles, Paul McCartney.

3. If you were reincarnated as an animal, what would you want to be?

Rat, I was born in the “Year of the Rat”. They are tenacious, clever, strong and who cares who likes ’em? They are respected, hence, one

of the Chinese’s revered animals.

4. What would your perfect vacation entail?

Sailing on a boat in the Bahamas when the trade-winds blow.

5. What is a pet-peeve of yours?

It is ME when I am self-centered and impatient.

6. What is your favorite hobby?

Creating miniature scenes from “found art” for a video/novel I am writing.

7. What is your favorite novel and why?

“The Moonstone”, because its the only one I ever read, I think.

8. If you could have any super power, what would it be?

To talk and chew gum at the same time.

9. What is a secret skill you have that not many people would know about?

I enjoy writing as it is a fun challenge to put words together that are designed to paint a picture of an event, and to create an emotion in the reader. To me, putting words together are as arranging notes is to a composer and an as an artist chooses colors to simulate a plethora of human emotions.

10. Why do you create content revolving around pop-culture?

It is important to relate to the era in which one lives, but not to become inundated with its trivia. Life is a short trip and a most wondrous miracle a pile of atoms can experience.

11. Why do you love pop-culture?

It is fun and is my “bright color” of living in the moment.

12. What is your favorite super hero movie and why?

Superman. One of the classic heroes who was create by kids who were not powerful, so they created this character to become so vicariously via their idea/comic/eventual movie.

13. Out of all the comic-cons you have attended, which was the most memorable?

San Diego International Comic Con. It was in my hometown, had my booth there in 1996 and have seen it explode through the years.

14. How has CMAC been a positive influence in your life?

CMAC gave me the chance to expand my creative world. Gives me a challenge. Learning new things is “mind rejuvenating”. Met interesting people too!
