Member of the Month: Anita Fernandez

CMAC is full of individuals working hard to learn new skills, create content, and sharing it with the community. Each month we will highlight a CMAC member, their story, and the programming they create. For May, our member of the month is Anita Fernandez. She produces the show “Just Music” which features local musical talents and has volunteered on several member productions. Anita has been a member since the very first Orientation workshop and has 28 completed episodes for her show. She is currently serving on the CMAC Board of Directors.

1. If you were reincarnated as an animal, what would you want to be?
Well, if I were reincarnated as an animal, I think I would want to be a dolphin. Flying under the waves sounds great to me.

2. What is your favorite music genre who is your favorite artist of that genre? Song?
My favorite music genre is jazz, but I listen to all genres. Music lets you indulge in mood matching and can sometimes be very healing. So, when i feel up and energetic, I will listen to something up-tempo. If I am down and blue, what else but R&B? All genres have something fabulous to offer, in my opinion.

3. What is your favorite restaurant?
Nepenthe in Big Sur. It’s situated in a cove and is beautiful. You can gaze out at the sea from an outside patio where seagulls and songbirds steal your fries, or from the inside by a warm fire.

4. What would your perfect vacation entail?
Perfect vacation would include sand, sea, sailing, and snorkeling.

5. When you’re feeling down, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
To make myself feel better when I am down I watch movies. Usually comedies, but a horror flick can cheer you right up.

6. What is your favorite hobby?
My favorite hobby is gardening.

7. What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie always changes and I will go back and forth. I love the older black and white (Akira Kurosawa and Orson Welles) that use moody film noir, as well as the newer ones (anything Star Wars and Marvel) and those incredible special effects. Morphing and amped up FX started with “Jurassic Park”, though, so because of that it’s a favorite. Also, a Japanese film called “Double Suicide” due to the symbolism (some would argue it’s over the top) and film noir vibe.

8. What is a pet-peeve of yours?
When people are inflexible, I am a bit peeved. It’s not that difficult to at least try to see something from someone else’s point of view.

9. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
There have been situations in which I felt invisible, so that’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I would say flight.

10. How has CMAC been a positive influence in your life?
CMAC has been a huge part of my film education and has helped me learn more about film making from a digital point of view. I have had many opportunities to work with great producers and to produce and direct on my own. More than that, I have met some of the best people I have ever known at CMAC, My peeps are there.
