CMAC is full of individuals working hard to learn new skills, create content, and sharing with community members like you. Each month we will highlight a CMAC member, their story, and the programming they create. For February, our member of the month is Ismael “Smiley” Calderon! Smiley has been a member for over a year now and has volunteered on shows such as Yo Soy! while also starring in his own show; Smiley G’s Stand Up Evening of Comedy. We asked Smiley a few questions, and here’s what he had to say:
1) What’s your favorite part about CMAC?
“I love that CMAC is a powerful low-cost community resource staffed with friendly and knowledgeable customer service staff.”
2) What was the worst job you ever had?
– The worst job I ever had involved no sleep and watching a lot of kiddos…all I can say is, Thank God for alcohol!
3) What is you favorite quote?
– “I’m a day late and a dollar short”
4) Why?
– Because it’s true. Gotta keep on grinding…
5) What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?
– Believe it or not, Tongue tacos, aka Tacos de lengua…the whole time I chewed on one, I couldn’t stop thinking about the neverending gumminess of how it would feel chewing on my own tongue…eww.
6) If a movie was made of your life what genre would it be, who would play you?
– If a movie was made of my life it would be a tragedy – a comic tragedy. It would be cool if Michael Peña played me, lol…
7) You have to sing karaoke, what song do you pick?
– Something easy and smooth, like a James Taylor song, or some Bob Marley…
8) What would the title of your autobiography be?
– smileyFUCked
9) What is your favorite magical or mythological animal?
– Unicorn
10) What is your spirit animal?
– Lion
11) What’s the most out-of-character thing you’ve ever done?
– I took a modern dance class. Lol – Mad respect for choreographers…
12) If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?
-1990s estilo cholo chicano de Santa Ana
13) What’s the most embarrassing fashion trend you used to rock?
– Braces, with rubber bands and all…
14) If you were famous, what would you be famous for?
– Inspiring people to empathize and keep hope and love alive.
15) What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
– It’s hard to hit a moving target
16) What does your favorite shirt look like?
– A throbbing and juicy full-sized eggplant with the subtitle “Dinner-time”
